Starting your NewLocs can be a very confusing time with a lot of different information thrown at you, all claiming to be the 'right' way. Well truth be told, there is no 'right' way; its all really a matter of preference and depends on the results you're looking for and the way your lifestyle and values will accompany you on your journey. Do you believe in sustainability and recycling? Do your religious or dietary beliefs affect your choices when it comes to your hair? Are you organic or methodical? Do you want something instant, or are you looking toward more of a cultivation?

CleanLocs™ focuses on the health and cleanliness of your hair using very little product and putting very little stress on your hair by sing natural products and not over twisting. The prefered method used at CleanLocs is double-twist & back-combing, occasionally using a crochet needle for difficult areas or bone straight hair. Although it's your choice, there is no need for wax, brown gel, loc gel, pomades, or to keep your hair unwashed when starting NewLocs. These things tend to hinder the hairs abilty to make knots and "loc" or "take" & stunt growth by not allowing the hair to receive sunlight and oxygen.

Despite popular belief, dirty, stiff hair does not equal formed or mature Locs. Mature are locs are those that go through the process of making knots and naturally matting. When hair is dirty it is greasy and slick and becomes difficult to make knots because the hair is so slippery. Furthermore Locs are a natural process, and require patience and a positive outlook more than anything. Attempting to speed up the process with string, elastics, wax & gels will not create instant results.
